These proceedings comprise one of the most comprehensive collations of information about marine protected areas (MPAs) and are easily searchable for any related topic or keyword.
The proceedings cover a diverse range of MPA issues such as building effective MPA networks, evaluating management effectiveness, management planning, sustainable use, ecosystem processes, community-based management, and more. It also includes numerous international case studies on the principles and best practices of managing MPAs.
As a web-based product, various features enhance the ability of users to navigate around the document; these are explained on page 4 of the proceedings, and include ‘hotlinks’ from the contents page to all sections of the report; and the ability to search by Author, Theme, orals, posters or any keyword. All delegates are also listed alphabetically within their countries.
It is a large document (~19 MB or 670 pages), so it is recommended that it be downloaded from the website as a PDF onto a computer ‘desktop’ to improve the speed of navigating around the document. A limited number of CD-ROMs will be produced for those congress delegates who requested a CD at the congress given their specific problems in accessing the web.
